Overview

WRCOG Regional Food Rescue Program in partnership with local cities are providing local FREE SB 1383 support to businesses and Food Recovery Organizations, using the Careit app to help with reporting and facilitation of receiving and reporting edible food donations.

Senate Bill 1383

Senate Bill 1383 (SB1383) is a California state law to decrease greenhouse emissions by reducing the amount of organic waste that ends up in landfills. A key part of SB 1383 aims to reduce unnecessary food waste and food insecurity, by recovering food that would otherwise go to landfill. By 2025, California businesses will need to decrease greenhouse emissions by reducing the amount of organic waste that ends up in landfills. A key part of SB 1383 aims to reduce unnecessary food waste and food insecurity by recovering food that would otherwise go to landfills to recover approximately 20% of edible food by donating it to food recovery organizations.

Program Information

The Western Riverside Council of Governments (WRCOG), in partnership with the cities of Jurupa Valley, Murrieta, Moreno Valley, Perris and San Jacinto is providing local FREE SB 1383 support to businesses and Food Recovery Organizations, using the Careit app to help with reporting and facilitation of receiving and reporting edible food donations.

Support Includes:

  • Access to the WRCOG Regional Food Rescue Program Food Recovery Network.
  • FREE access to the CAREIT Food Recovery App where you can have access to donors and manage donations for seamless reporting.
  • 1-on-1 program training and technical support.
